Product Description

Poet and workshop leader Whyte tells us, “Poetry belongs in many parts of our lives. It can bring mythological and concrete worlds together.” He takes us on a journey from the outer world of the Galapagos Islands, where he was a naturalist guide to the inner world of an emerging poet. He speaks of how we might extend our powers of attention and “use language so that it’s kept, it’s not a screen for something else; it’s not advertising, it’s language that is your own.”

David Whyte grew up among the hills and valleys of Yorkshire, England. A captivating speaker with a compelling blend of profound poetry and insightful commentary, he is one of the few poets to take his perspectives on creativity into the field of organizational development. He holds a degree in Marine Zoology, and is an Associate Fellow of the Said Business School at the University of Oxford. In 2008, he was awarded an Honorary Degree from Neumann College. He is the author of six books of poetry including River Flow: New and Selected Poems (Many Rivers Press 2007), as well as the nonfiction titles The Heart Aroused: Poetry and the Preservation of the Soul in Corporate America (Currency 1994) and The Three Marriages: Reimagining Work, Self and Relationship (Riverhead 2009).
