Program Description
“Once we start turning religion into spirituality again, which is how it began, in its healthy versions, the differences often melt,” says Fox. His luminous visions of future religion, work and education invoke both ancient wisdom and futuristic technology as ways of expressing the needs and vitality of modern human society. The unorthodoxy of this outspoken Catholic priest earned him dismissal from the Dominican order. Now an ordained Episcopal priest, he continues to speak out about the need for people of all ages and beliefs to seek common ground in genuine spiritual experience.
Mathew Fox is a scholar in residence with the Academy for the Love of Learning. He is the author of numerous books, including Confessions: The Making of a Post-Denominational Priest (HarperSanFrancisco 1996). Sins of the Spirit, Blessings of the Flesh: Lessons for Transforming Evil in Soul and Society (Three Rivers Press 2000), One River, Many Wells: Wisdom Springing From Global Faiths (Tarcher/Putnam 2000), Original Blessing (J.P. Tarcher 2000), The Reinvention of Work (HarperOne 1995), and The Hidden Spirituality of Men (New World Library 2008). He was a member of the Dominican Order for 34 years and holds a doctorate in the History and Theology of Spirituality from the Institut Catholique de Paris. Fox is currently lecturing, teaching and writing, and is president of Friends of Creation Spirituality, the nonprofit that he created in 1984.
